Founded in London in 1839 by the Scotsman James MacQueen.66 Obtained the British Admiralty contract to transport mail to the West Indies (Caribbean), initiating regular services from Southampton/Falmouth to Barbados and other Caribbean ports.20 Expanded its routes to South America (Brazil, Rio de la Plata).20 Motto: Per Mare Ubique (By sea, everywhere).66 Became a large shipping group under the leadership of Owen Philipps (Lord Kylsant) in the early 20th century, acquiring numerous other lines. In 1927, it took control of the White Star Line, becoming the largest shipping group in the world.20 However, the group faced severe financial problems due to Kylsant's management, leading to its collapse and financial scandal (Royal Mail Case) in 1930-1931.20 The company was liquidated in 1932, and its assets were transferred to the newly formed Royal Mail Lines Ltd..20
