Construction Date
Ordered to be built in the 12th century by King Sancho VI of Navarre. It was expanded and renovated in later centuries, notably in the 16th century by order of Charles V, who equipped it with an artillery platform.
Conservation status
Parts of the castle are visible. Mount Urgull is accessible to the public for most of the year. Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC).

Main characteristics
Situated at the highest point of Mount Urgull, overlooking the bay and the city of San Sebastián. The current structure reflects various construction phases. It is crowned by a statue of the Sacred Heart. Mount Urgull, where it is located, is a park with trails and viewpoints.
