Main characteristics

It succeeded Forte Schoonenborch. The fortress (and its predecessor) gave origin and name to the city of Fortaleza. The current structure represents the consolidation of Portuguese power in the region. Historic headquarters of several military units. Currently, it houses the headquarters of the 10th Military Region of the Exército Brazileiro. It also functions as a tourist spot.
