Current status uncertain. General deterioration of American fortifications observed (UNESCO). Conservation work mentioned in the historic center of La Guaira, but not specifically on the fort. Recent assessment needed.

Main characteristics
18th century reinforcement of La Guaira-Caracas defenses; commanding view of the port; regular square bastioned plan (4 bastions with sentry boxes); two levels (semi-buried with cistern/powder magazine, upper with parapet/embrasures/barracks); entrance with drawbridge. Protected the rear of the city and the road to Caracas. Used as a prison (Miranda). Monumento Histórico Nacional (1976).
