The world's largest maritime museum, part of Royal Museums Greenwich (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). It explores Britain's encounters with the world at sea.

Enormous collection covering maritime history, art (including works by Turner and Hogarth), cartography, manuscripts, ship models, and public records. Includes astronomy and timekeeping collections (at the Royal Observatory).

Observations
Formally established by an Act of Parliament in 1934 and opened to the public by King George VI in 1937. It is a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
