Description
English patache. Although it was considered a shipwreck, it was salvaged. However, the accident rendered it "unseaworthy", having to go to auction.
Notes
[Source 1] The auction was under the responsibility of José Francisco de Athayde e Mello, an auction agent from the city, having been authorized by Mr. John Mitchinson, captain of the Patache. According to the auction report, it will take place on board the ship in Cabedelo, where it is anchored. The term "porto de Cabedello" appears. The "said ship with all its masting, spars, sails, ropes, chains, anchors, etc., that it has on board, as well as a launch, will be auctioned - only the ballast of coal, consisting of 42 tons, will be sold separately." The event will take place with the presence of the British vice-consul. Whoever wins the auction will have to pay taxes and a 5% brokerage fee. I believe that certain isolated finds in the region may come from this ship. As it became unseaworthy, it may have lost its rudder, which is one of the pieces that were photographed.
