April of Intense Activity at the EXEA Museum: New Publications, Digital Collection Expansion, and Special Recognitions

Wednesday, April 30, 2025

The EXEA Maritime Museum had a particularly productive April, marked by important launches, significant expansion of our digital collection, and special recognitions that strengthen our community.

In terms of publications, we celebrated the launch of volume 2 of our separate publication, "All Seas," a periodical dedicated to maritime archaeology. This edition features four intriguing studies conducted in Portugal and one significant study in Brazil. Additionally, EXEA Publishing is pleased to announce the publication of "A History of Food, Volume 1," authored by historian Leandro Vilar Oliveira. Across 12 chapters, the work explores the fascinating history of various foods and beverages that have impacted the world, from Prehistory to the 21st century.

Our EXEApedia system was considerably enriched with the creation of a new and robust database on Coastal Fortifications of the Atlantic. This valuable collection already includes information on fortifications from over 20 countries bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Furthermore, we carried out important updates to our other databases dedicated to shipwrecks and merchant vessels, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information for researchers and enthusiasts.

Responding to requests and reinforcing our commitment to accessibility, we relaunched the exhibition "To the Sound of Steamers." This was the museum's first sound exhibition with audiodescription, allowing for a unique immersion in history through detailed descriptions of shipping company posters from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Finally, in a moment of great satisfaction and gratitude, we awarded benefactor certificates to Alexandra Figueiredo and António Cravo. This honor recognizes the important work, dedication, and invaluable support they have both provided to the EXEA Museum over recent years, contributing significantly to our development and mission.

We invite everyone to explore these new developments and continue following the activities of the EXEA Maritime Museum!
