First Live: The northeastern coast in Dutch Brazil

Monday, June 28, 2021
On June 30, 2021 (Wednesday), at 7 PM, Museu Marítimo EXEA will host its first Instagram Live on the theme of the second virtual exhibition: The northeastern coast in Dutch Brazil. The exhibition is the work of EXEA Museum's associate researcher, Historian Dr. Leandro Vilar. Based on some of Frans Post's works, we illustrate this virtual exhibition in which we address the Dutch impressions of the northeastern coast. However, we did not limit ourselves to Post's paintings; we also decided to use maritime reports about the coast. For this, we chose the report The Torch of Navigation (Toortse der Zee-vert), written by Captain Dierick Ruiters and published in 1623, and the report Itinerary of Rich Brazil (Reysboeck van het Rycke Brazilien), of anonymous authorship, published in 1624. The Live will be a chat between Dr. Leandro Vilar and Lawyer Giovanna Wanderley, also an associate member of the Museum. We invite everyone to watch this moment.
