Notes

[Source 2] The President of the province authorized the port captain's expense for the "clearing and whitewashing" necessary at the Atalaia, allowing it to be sighted by vessels from a greater distance. [Observation] On the left bank of the Rio Paraíba, near its mouth, there is a watchtower, located in the district of Forte Velho, Municipality of Santa Rita. Its position allows it to have a privileged field of vision, and this may be the same aforementioned construction.
