Introduction

Spatial scope
Maritime navigation begins on land, before setting out to sea. For an efficient flow, the construction of various structures that optimize time, safety, and shorten distances on maritime routes is fundamental.
With a spatial focus on the Atlantic Ocean, the database was constructed by consulting institutional, academic, and documentary sources. These sources present varied methods and levels of detail.
Ports, quays, shipyards, "trapiches" (wharves), warehouses, workshops, and piers are examples of essential land and maritime structures for naval activities. These facilities exert direct or indirect influence on the definition of navigation routes.
