Notes
Fortaleza do Cabedelo, as it was called in the 19th century, is the current Fortaleza de Santa Catarina. Despite being conceived in its first architectural “version” at the end of the 16th century, this structure was widely used throughout the 19th century, serving as a “watchtower at the mouth of the Rio Paraíba” (Source 1), Escola de Aprendizes Marinheiros (Source 2), and headquarters for the pilotage association's sessions (Source 3), when it was already in ruins, in 1899 (Source 4).
